Brian Drain

  • Donor Search Expert Coach
  • Kidney Recipient

Brian does not take his life for granted and finds ways to celebrate it since his perspective changed in 2018 when he received the “gift of life” thanks to a selfless person who chose to become his living kidney donor. To pay it forward, Brian lives to help others in need of a kidney transplant to find their donor.

He began volunteering with Mulligans Living Kidney Donors in Kentucky in 2016 after he was diagnosed with kidney issues and became a National Kidney Registry microsite coach. Brian leans on his own experiences of being hesitant about telling others about his health issues and transplant need to assist other patients in getting the word out and finding resources and information regarding kidney transplantation. He cherishes helping others on their journey and looks forward to continuing to do so for many years to come. He credits the National Kidney Registry with helping him find his kidney donor.

Brian loves being a coach with the National Kidney Registry. He looks forward to assisting many more patients and sharing ideas to help them find their donors and have a second chance at life to be with family and enjoy the things they love.

Brian currently resides in Fisherville, Kentucky. In 1990, he earned an Associate Degree in Electronics from the National Institute of Technology in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. Brian also spent two years at Carver Career Center trade school in Belle, West Virginia, studying HVAC/Refrigeration and Electrical training. He worked in the commercial and industrial industry as a master electrician. Unfortunately, after 20 years, he became unable to keep up with the rigorous demands of his job due to starting dialysis.

Brian and his wife, Marie, have been married for 23 years, and amid the emotional and stressful transplant period, she was his support and caregiver. The couple has one child, a son.

Mr. Drain was an assistant scoutmaster for five years, and during his tenure as a scout leader, his son received the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout. Brian has a passion for anything outdoors; he loves to hunt, fish, hike, and camp. He also enjoys making crafts and other items from wood.
